Second, the toon is in like dash efficacious in drawing connect reactions beyond the intend Obama criticism. On the one hand, the study is withal a criticism of the passels implied gullibility or sensed neglect of diminutive thought in receiving Barack Obama. Obama , as mentioned, is a gifted speaker. And many state, it need to be argued, are draw to persons who goat sway themselves magisterially in public conventions and rallies. The vignette thus takes on how people appear unavailing to go beyond Obamas charisma as a speaker. This is or so notably seen in how the survey depicts the bunch applauding Obamas speech, notwithstanding its implied drop of sane sum total.McCoy and so implies that, on accounting of this tendency, the habitual public is not able to supply Obamas meat very much needed due south thoughts. On the other hand, it would be impertinent to cite that the study evict besides be construe as a statement against the manner by which political science is instanced in this country. The parley of the devil kangaroos is telling this is get easier by the irregular whitethorn be taken as a an poor patience over a political pattern marked by pretermit of substance on the part of politicos and deprivation of judgment on the part of the right to vote public. If taken into this context, the vignette may not specifi abusey be against Barack Obama as the whole political arrangement of the united States. remote from organism offensive, the cartoon abide in fact be ultimately taken as McCoys call to shed light on the exercise of politics in this country. endpoint This paper now concludes that Gary McCoys political cartoon is effectual in conveyancing its kernel to its audience. At the very least, the cartoon is clear in that it depicts its message without much ambiguity. In the discussions which were developed, it was well-read that the cartoon is first of all a criticism against Barack Obama. As it depicts the politicians speech as something that consists in goose egg only when the perennial rhetoric on consent and change, the cartoon accordingly implies that Obama either has nonentity new to say or his message has no substance. only if farthest from bein g offensive, it is to a fault argued that the cartoon may be taken as McCoys call to illuminate the political drill of this country.

Emergency prep atomic number 18dness flyer - Essay ExampleThe primary focus would be to draw up a lodge preparedness plan, the default thing to do in any foreseeable emergency in which certain things have to be taken into account. Firstly, know what to expect. Educating oneself or so the kind of accident along with some information regarding their location would help prepare them accordingly. Public Administration Theory application Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Public Administration Theory application - Essay interpreterIncluded in the paper will be a theoretical perspective of the problem and guess selected. Various areas that may be specifically impacted and a problem analysis addressing the rates of graduation and test scores, additionally a solution analysis will be included with hypothetical returns found on current observations and obtainable data. Ohio High Schools and the need for change Public education in Ohio In the teach year ending in 2006 roughly 74% of all students in Ohio high schools graduated with a regular diploma. One contributing factor in this may be the earnings bedspread that exists with those not graduating generally making $10,000 less annually. (Alliance of an excellent education, 2009) In a 2008 report by the Americas Promise Alliance education group found that in that respect was a large disparity in urban graduation rates versus suburban graduation rates, Columbus Ohio for instance averaged 40.9% gradu ation rate while the suburban districts had an average graduation rate of 82.9% showing a glaring disparity in the two geographical areas. (Swanson, P.h.D, 2008 p. 12) This glaring disparity does bring the idea that there may be race related issues as well, though it is likely it is simply the result of economic changes and geographical location. As can be seen with the available information there is a difference between urban and suburban locations and school districts. Overall scores in the state of Ohio increased in the school year ending in 2008 from the school year ending in 2000 however, these scores were down from the school year ending in 2006 from 92.9 to 92.3. (Ohio Department of Education, 2008) much importantly the disparity in graduation numbers still exists, which while the test scores are improving the reduced graduation in urban areas remains a problem. There have been local attempts at improving the level of education and rates of students graduating specifically from Cleveland Ohio. One of those efforts encompasses the philosophy that living forward from home may in fact assist with the students ability to learn. Educational Options LLC., offers a private solution for a usual issue. The transgress Ms. Simon offers a service which locates educational opportunities for teens with learning disabilities, from oppositional behavior done Autistic Spectrum Disorders. (Simon, 2011) Organizational theory, symbolic interactionism relating to the disparity of rates Symbolic interactionism as a theory focuses on the individual versus the more general societal implications of organizational theory. Within the public school system specifically within the Ohio High School public education program this border on would be a positive benefit. Sociologist Herbert Blumer defined the theory with three core principles. The first was meaning which states that humans act or react based on the meaning they have given those people or things they are reacting to . The second was language, which allows humans a means to negotiate through the meanings they have devised for the objects or persons. This further allows the basis for society as we understand it. The third principle is thought, each persons thoughts changes the meanings of the symbols and or language. (Nelson, 1998 np) This administration approach applied within the school system would allow for a more specific approach which could assist in preventing the large disparity

Teacher pay Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Teacher pay - Essay ExampleThe thesis statement of this essay is that teachers should be paid more in recite to improve their teaching craft, methods and techniques, which translates to improved student transaction. Discussion This essay explores the effect of an maturation in incentive for teachers in relation to their performance in call of teaching methods, differentiated and individual instruction, teaching morale etc. In addition to this, the essay focuses on the alternatives that are available to boost teachers performance standards, more or less notably merit pay and its effects on teaching efficiency. The essay also discusses the implications of merit pay, both ethically and maestroly, citing different opinions of whether merit pay is professional or not. Different citations guide the thesis of this essay on finding the best solution to the problem statement of this essay, which is whether teachers should or should not have an increase in pay. In a Times Magazine articl e titled How to Make Great Teachers, Claudia Wallis notes that, the most important aspect of boosting student performance is neither the amount of materials they are exposed to, nor the amount of money invested in classrooms and the students, but rather, the investment made to improve the welfare of the teachers. Claudia supposes that a merit pay corpse should be implemented in schools to motivate teachers. To most people, this is ethical and justifiable. It makes sense that people should be paid based on their performance and excellence. Other schools of conceit have suggested that teachers should be paid based on the performance of the students. This example shows that Wallis believes that teachers should be paid more, and that this increase should be on the basis of efficiency and results. In another article, How To Make Great Teachers, David West, Caitlin Abruzzi and James Raynor, seem to disagree with Wallis according to them, the idea of merit pay may seem justified and a w ant to educators, but there exists the problem of whether the ethical way is the professional way. Teachers should not want to better their teaching methods, skills, efforts and craft because of the promise of an increased pay they should do so because their work is to help students improve and better their knowledge. West, Abruzzi and Raynor seek to inform that although the merit pay might seem like a better move, the legal opinion rubric for assessing teachers would be biased. Victor Lavy opposes West, Abbruzi and Raynor, and supports Wallis idea of merit pay. According to Lavys Paying for performance the effect of teachers financial incentives on students scholastic outcomes, Lavy states that the lack of performance based pay leads to mediocrity in many academic institutions. Lavy draws his argument from an incentive experiment performed to determine the effect of increased pay on teachers performance. In this program, Hebrew, English and Math teachers were awarded cash bonuses, on the basis of improved class performance in exams (Lavy 6). The study was based on comparison groups and it employed third strategies a regression discontinuity method, a natural experiment whose concept derives from measurement of error in the assignment variable, and a propensity score matching. The results were consistent in all three methods, showing that paying incentives to teachers based on merit improved the students

The Home Front in World War One Essay Example for Free

The Home Front in World War unrivaled EssayWhy do the mentions show different attitudes to recruit manpowert? seed A is a recruitment poster from 1914 which tries to encourage men to sign up for the war effort. It shows what I assume to be a wife, daughter and son gazing protrude the window as the man of the ho manipulation walks out to join the war. This is evidently issued b the government and therefore is used as propaganda. It would no doubt have been effective as more flock soon joined up. descent B is yet anformer(a) poster, meant to encourage population to join up. However this time it is not meant to be out of heroism, it is meant to be out of revenge. It describes a fight which took place in Scarborough. The poster shows that many muckle were killed and in a brutal way. This is meant to strike deep in the hearts of the British soldiers, making them indispensableness to pay back the Germans for what they did to their family and friends. It also makes out the G ermans as heartless barbarians. It is again, unmistakablely a propaganda poster issued by the government.Source C is a picture of queues of people waiting outside a Army Recruiting Office waiting to enlist. However I do not think this picture is very accurate as all the people in it are looking at the camera. Personally I believe this picture was set up to show other men how many people were signing up for the war and hopefully make them feel bad about not doing it. I also think this is proved by the obvious sign on the top that says Army Recruiting Office. If this picture was not set up, the sign might not be so obvious but it is made to stand out to show the viewer what it is and to make sure u know. Therefore I think this source is very unreliable.Source D is an extract from the text book Modern World History by the historian, B. Walsh, published in 1996. It states that the recruitment campaign was very successful and by 1916 two million people had signed up. This was written for textbook for people to learn from so it was probably correct and if it is not, it was unintentional. Obviously the historian is working from other sources that have been found and written but there is nothing that would mean it is incorrect. He would have no motive to lie. It is also quite reliable as it is statistics and therefore cant lie as easily as for example a soldiers diary extract.Source E is an extract from the tribunal testimony of Clifford Allen in 1916. He firmly states that he does not belief in war and clearly shows that he will not be a part of it. This source is different from sources A, B and C as it is against conscription whereas the others have all been for it and encouraging to sign up willingly. However I think this source is very reliable as he would have reason to lie, because as he was against conscription he would have been imprisoned. But in fact he give tongue to the very thing that got him imprisoned, therefore I think it is the honest truth.I thin k the sources show a different attitude to recruitment because as the war went on, people saw how bad the war was and knew that the really didnt want to sign up for it. Therefore the government had to raise a lot harder to encourage people to join through propaganda.Part BExplain the effects of World war One on the way people lived in Britain between 1914 and 1918 pot were affected by World War One in many ways at home. Most of these changes were made by the government. The immediate task was to squeeze the people at home behind the war. They did this by trying to make them hate the Germans. This was successfully achieved by posters, some true, some not. Dora (Defence of the Realm Act) also changed many things at home. Dora was basically a set of rules that told people what they could not do. These rules included things like Do not fly a kite, light bonfires or fireworks, use invisible ink when writing abroad. As the war continued the government brought in many other measures such as not letting people but rounds of drinks in a pub and that beer should be watered down. Another big change brought on by the war in Britain was food shortages. viands supply was alright until 1916, but towards the end of that year and beginning of 1917, German Submarines were stopping supply ships from getting through.Because of this, food prices shot up dramatically. Dora was used to try and prevent food shortages, but it became obvious that these measures were not enough to reduce the amount of food being eaten or change the amount of food being produced. A voluntary ration scheme was introduced. People were asked to try and limit themselves to four pounds of meat and three quarters of a pound of sugar individually week. The King and Queen themselves followed this ration. However the campaign failed and shortages continued. Poorer people could not afford to buy meat and sugar and their diet usually consisted of just bread in the first place the rationing, while the rich wer e able to buy food as they wanted off the black market. Due to the shortages, people tried to grow their own food. place and tennis courts were turned into allotments where they could grow food. Eventually compulsory rationing was introduced. This once again, limited the amount of food people had, making it even harder to stay out of hunger. Soon factories suffered from lack of workers as the men went off to fight in the war. The government in the end had to accept that women had to do the job. This was the first time it was acknowledge that women would play a vital role in winning the war. Women were soon employed in munitions factories, textile factories and dress making factories. When conscription was introduced this forced the factories to be solely run by women. This I think shows a great difference in life before, during and after the war. The war changed many things that could not be changed back. Women gaining their independence is just one of many changes stemming from th e war.

Ethnicity And Police Essay Example for Free

Ethnicity And Police EssaySeptember 4, 2005 six days after hurricane Katrina devastated the city of crude siege of Orleans, six unsanded Orleans police officers loaded into the back of a Budget rental truck and stormed the Danziger Bridge in the eastern area of the city. The officers were responding to a call of shots fired and an officer was down, in reality police officers escorting a civilian convoy on the I-10 high rise made a regret call over the police radio of shots fired on the Danziger Bridge and made the impression that an officer was down. A group of at least cardinal officers were in the truck all from the 7th districts make shift station. Claimed once they approached the bridge over they received gun fire from civilians, which made them open fire. Civilians on the bridge claim they were ambushed by the officers in the truck. The officers shot eight unarmed citizens fatally wounding two 17 family old James Brissette and 40 year old Robert capital of Wisconsin w ho was mentally disabled. The officers were wrong in doing so, because they did not verify any citizens carrying weapons nor did they identify themselves as police officers. The officers opened fire on the civilians below the assumption they were carrying weapons. By doing so the officers did not follow standard procedures (Nola, 2005). The New Orleans Police segment investigated the shootings internally, but victims of the shootings felt that justice was not served. The Bartholomew and Madison families who were the victims along with an outcry from citizens of New Orleans led the national Bureau of investigations to investigate the citys police department. During the federal probe of the shootings, evidence was shew that officers were not justified in the death of the two individuals, and the internal probe by investigators attempted to cover the evidence. Two years after the incident officers were arrested and indicted on murder charges, but the charges were dropped due to mish andling by the district attorneys office. Two weeks later the Civil Rights Division of the United States Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigationstook over the case. Robert Faulcon along with five other police officers faced charges ranging from corruption, violation of civil rights, and weapons charges. Before the case went to trial the federal prosecution offered a series of plea bargains to the suspected officers because the case had been cold when they received it. On August 5, 2011 nearly six years after hurricane Katrina struck the city of New Orleans Robert Faulcon appeared in federal court, United States district judge Kurt Engelhart presided over the hearings (FBI, 2012).Robert Faulcon who fatally shot Robert Madison in the back with a shotgun testified that he never saw anyone on the bridge point a gun or fire at him, and that he never identified himself as a police officer or told Madison to stop. Two innocent people died and several others were wounde d that day on the Danziger Bridge by the police officers whose jobs were to cheer their lives of the innocent. After testimonies from prosecution and defense the former officers were found guilty on all charges. Robert Faulcon was sentenced to sixty five years in federal prison. sergeant-at-law Kenneth dark-brown was sentenced to 40 years in prison, Sergeant Robert Gesivius also received 40 years in prison, and Officer Anthony Villavaso received a 38 year sentence.Sergeant Authur Kaufman who was the lead investigator on the case, received a six year sentence for covering up the crimes during the investigation, and one officer was exonerated of the charges (Chicago Citizen, 2010). An attorney for the Department of Justice described the case as one of the most significant police misconduct incidents since the Rodney King beating. The New Orleans police department has a long history of corruption and violence. With the prosecution of these officers citizens hope that this will end t he final chapter. And that they can begin to trust the officers sworn to protect them.References(2010, December 15). occasion New Orleans Police Officer Sentenced for Role in Danziger Bridge Shootings.
